Dr. Leah Altemeier

Leah Altemeier, PhD (she/her)

CAPSS Clinical Associate

Licensed Psychologist (WA)

I am a licensed psychologist with 20+ years of experience working with young people and their families. My areas of specialty include: autism, ADHD, giftedness, emotion regulation, and anxiety.

Current Services Offered:

iThrive Kids Emotion Regulation and Resilience Intervention Program – Hybrid Group + Parent Coaching
Each fall and spring, I offer a program for 4th and 5th graders and their families called iThrive Kids. This is an 8-week program that teaches skills for emotion regulation and resilience and involves a weekly skills group for kids coupled with individualized parent coaching. More information can be found on this webpage. If you’re interested in participating, please email Dr. Altemeier at leah@leahaltemeier.com.

Speak Up and Stay S.T.R.O.N.G. class

I run a purely educational program for 8 to 11-year-olds on social assertiveness. This is a 4-week class that meets online with parent-child dyads. This is a nonclinical service that benefits all children and teaches how to navigate relationships, assert your needs calmly, and manage conflict while maintaining respect for yourself and others. Social assertiveness (not to be confused with aggressiveness) is the ability to stand up for yourself without damaging relationships. It is a way to teach children alternatives when they may otherwise default to passive or aggressive tendencies. Assertiveness training has a significant research base demonstrating its association with emotional well-being, self-esteem, and social skills. More information can be found on this webpage. If you’re interested in participating, please email Dr. Altemeier at leah@leahaltemeier.com.

Parent Coaching for Parents of Children Ages 5 to 12

I frequently consult with parents on developing their child's emotion regulation, social skills, or executive functioning, as well as on decreasing noncompliance at home. My approach draws from the work of Carolyn Webster-Stratton, John Gottman, and Ross Greene, among others.

Individual Therapy for 7-12 year olds

I help children navigate all kinds of strong emotions, including but not limited to anger, frustration, anxiety, stress, disappointment, and persistent sadness. I provide individual therapy for new clients ages 7-12. Many children I work with have learning differences, Autism, or ADHD. My therapy practice is typically full due to the limited number of hours after school, although I do have occasional openings.
